Conoscenze di base della storia dei paesi di lingua tedesca a partire almeno dal 1850 al 2000 (utilizzare p.e. Corni, Storia della Germania, Il Saggiatore, Milano 1999; oppure Destro, I paesi di lingua tedesca, Il Mulino, Bologna 2001). Conoscenza dei principali movimenti artistici e letterari europei del Novecento. Conoscenze di base della lingua tedesca sono auspicabili; per informazioni sui lettorati scrivere al prof. Georg Maag (georg.maag@unito.it) o alla prof. Anna Romano (anna.romano@gmx.at).

Obiettivi formativi
Il modulo si propone di:
- approfondire la conoscenza della letteratura della e riguardo alla Deutsche Demokratische Republik (DDR) fino agli anni 2000, collocandola nel contesto storico e culturale di riferimento;
- fornire metodi e strumenti necessari all'analisi e all'interpretazione delle strategie discorsive alla base delle opere letterarie, in particolare poetiche;
- aiutare gli studenti a condurre una riflessione interdisciplinare a partire dall'opera di diversi autori, che coinvolga gli strumenti della ricerca storica, filologica e antropologica, con particolare riguardo ai temi dell'appartenenza politica.
The module aims to:
- deepen the knowledge of the literature during and about the German Democratic Republic, in the context of its time and its socio-cultural situation;
- give tools and methodologies useful for the analysis and interpretation of literary works, poetry in particular.
- help the students to reflect about different literary works, involving different fields of expertise like historical research, philology and anthropology, in particular about politics.

In conformità agli obiettivi contenuti nella scheda SUA-CdS, al termine dell'insegnamento lo studente dovrà:
- saper collocare le problematiche che emergono dalle opere letterarie collegate alla DDR;
- conoscere il contesto storico e culturale nel quale tali opere sono nate;
- riconoscere le strategie artistiche e le problematiche principali espresse nelle opere prese in esame.
In compliance with the general aims explicited in the SUA-CdS, at the end of the module the student will have to:
- be able to situate the literary works on and about DDR in the history and culture of their time;
- know the historical and cultural context in which these works has been written, and the history of their reception;
- recognize the artistic strategies and the principal questions in the works analysed during the course.

Modalità di insegnamento
Se la situazione sanitaria lo consentirà, il corso (lezioni frontali di 36 ore in lingua italiana) si svolgerà in aula con trasmissione via streaming, con l'ausilio di video e slide. Le lezioni verranno registrate e saranno disponibili sulla piattaforma Moodle collegata al corso. Se le aule non saranno disponibili per via dell'emergenza, si farà ricorso alla piattaforma Webex, con lezioni nei medesimi orari. Sarà in ogni caso utilizzata la piattaforma Moodle per il caricamento di testi utili per l'esame e materiali di approfondimento. Verrà data la possibilità di preparare relazioni scritte e orali.

Accordingly with the pandemic situation, the course (frontal lessons in Italian, 36 hours) will be held in classroom with streaming broadcasting; the lessons will be recorded and will be available on the Moodle platform. If the classrooms will be unavailable, the lessons will be held via Webex. The course will be partially held as a seminar. The students can, voluntarily, prepare a brief exposition for the class. They can also write a brief paper.

Modalità di verifica dell'apprendimento
Esame orale alla fine del corso. Si richiede la conoscenza dei temi trattati a lezione. La preparazione sarà considerata adeguata (con votazione espressa in trentesimi), se lo studente
- dimostrerà capacità di esposizione, ricorrendo alla terminologia necessaria;
- proverà in modo autonomo - quindi, senza dipendere dalla presentazione degli argomenti offerta dai testi critici - familiarità con opere, stili e contesti;
- riconoscerà o stabilirà rapporti e collegamenti di interdipendenza fra essi;
- saprà considerarli nei rispettivi periodi, ambiti e contesti di riferimento;
- saprà leggere brevi brani di testi originali in tedesco, discussi a lezione.
I lavori eventualmente svolti (relazione e/o esposizione a lezione) possono concorrere, se valutati positivamente, al voto finale. All'incirca a metà del corso è prevista una prova in itinere.
Oral examination at the end of the course. The student will be asked to be familiar with the topic discussed during the module. The acquired competence will be considered appropriate when the student will
- show good exposition skills, using the needed italian terminology; when he/she will prove to have autonomous - i.e. not only depending on critical texts' positions - familiarity with works, styles and contests;
- recognize or establish links and relationships among them;
- consider them in their periods, contexts and enviroments;
- will read short fragments of original German literary texts, discussed during the module.
Exposition and paper, if positively valued, can contribute to the final note. The students will be given the possibility to test their knowledge with a brief written exam around the course's midpoint.

Although not compulsory, it is recommended to follow the "lettorato" courses of prof. Georg Maag and prof. Anna Romano; they will begin in OCTOBER 2020.

Nell'ottobre del 1990 la Deutsche Demokratische Republik si fondeva – di fatto scomparendo – con la Bundesrepublik. Non scompariva invece la sua letteratura, uno spazio in cui l'utopia, assai più che altrove, si era conservata. Essa era nata in un serrato confronto con le strutture di potere interne al regime. Questa letteratura non è però riducibile a quelle strutture; e in questo senso studiarla non è un'operazione meramente archeologica, bensì un tentativo di "evocazione dei morti" nel senso che dava Heiner Müller a questa espressione: "Il dialogo coi morti non può interrompersi, finché essi non tirano fuori ciò che di futuro è stato sepolto con loro".
Il corso intende ripercorrere la storia della DDR dal punto di vista letterario, utilizzando in particolare le voci poetiche della Germania orientale. Dopo un'introduzione storica e storico-letteraria che terrà conto sia della fase 1949-1989, di effettiva esistenza del paese, sia dei decenni successivi, si analizzeranno liriche significative di Johannes Bobrowski, Peter Huchel, Sarah Kirsch, Günter Kunert, Heinz Czechowski, Heiner Müller, Volker Braun, Wolfgang Hilbig, Durs Grünbein, Lutz Seiler. Tutte le poesie verranno lette in tedesco, con traduzione italiana.
È previsto anche un approfondimento sull'opera in prosa di Wolfgang Hilbig, in vista di un convegno che si svolgerà nella primavera 2021.
In October 1990 the Deutsche Demokratische Republik melt with Bundesrepublik; this meant its vanishing. What didn't vanished is its literature, a space where utopic thinking, more than elsewhere, has been preserved. This literature was born in accord and at the same time in clash with the structures of power of the regime; nevetheless, it can't be reduced to those structures. In this sense, its study it's not an archeological one. Instead, it is an "evoking of the dead": "The dialogue with the dead cannot cease until they haven't handed out what of the future has been buried with them".
The course aims to analyse the history of DDR through the lens of literary works, in particular poetry. After an historical and literary introduction rgarding both the period 1949-1989 and the next decades, we will read significant poetical works of Johannes Bobrowski, Peter Huchel, Sarah Kirsch, Günter Kunert, Heinz Czechowski, Heiner Müller, Volker Braun, Wolfgang Hilbig, Durs Grünbein, Lutz Seiler. The poems will be read in German, with Italian translation.
Some lessons will be dedicated to the prosa of Wolfgang Hilbig; an international seminar about him is foreseen in Turin in spring 2021.

Al corso è collegata una pagina Moodle, raggiungibile tramite il pulsante in fondo alla pagina. In essa sono presenti i video delle lezioni, gli appunti presi da studenti e studentesse, materiale utile per lo studio.
La conoscenza della lingua tedesca non è obbligatoria; tuttavia durante il corso si analizzeranno brevi brani in lingua originale, che saranno richiesti all'esame. Non saperli tradurre non pregiudicherà l'esito dell'esame, ma inciderà sul voto. Gli studenti sono pregati di consultare la pagine web del docente per tutte le informazioni relative al corso.
Dato che le lezioni saranno registrate, non verrà considerata la distinzione fra frequentanti e non frequentanti; il programma è pertanto unico.
Si invitano tutti/e coloro che sono interessati/e al corso a iscriversi ad esso, in modo che il docente possa regolarsi circa la capienza dell'aula.

Students can find a Moodle page linked to the course (link at the bottom of this page). In Moodle they will find the recorded lessons, the notes taken by students and useful material.
The knowledge of German is not compulsory; brief passages will be analised and tranlated during the course and asked by the exam. If the student cannot translate them, the note will be lower, but it is in every case possibile to pass it. For further information, students are invited to consult the web pages of the Professor.
Due to the recording of the lessons, no one will be considered 'Non attending student'.
Who is interested in the course is asked to enrol, iso that the professor can figure out the classroom.
