Obiettivi formativi
Durante il seminario saranno esaminate le più significative opere letterarie dell’American Renaissance, periodo di intenso fervore intellettuale ed artistico compreso tra il 1830 e il 1865. In particolare, sarà posto in evidenza come queste opere abbiano segnatamente influenzato lo sviluppo della civiltà americana dal punto di vista letterario, sociale e storico.
This seminar will focus on masterpieces of the American Renaissance, the period of intense intellectual and artistic energy between 1830 and 1865. Particular emphasis will be placed on understanding how these works deeply influenced the development of American culture in terms of literature, society and history.

Considerando che i testi in programma comprenderanno racconti, romanzi, autobiografie e poesie, alla fine del seminario, gli studenti, si spera, avranno sostanzialmente affinato, attraverso l’insegnamento diretto, la lettura di validi saggi teorici e critici e la discussione in classe, le loro specifiche capacità critiche per i suddetti generi.
Since the syllabus includes short stories, novels, autobiographies and poetry, it is hoped that upon completion of the seminar, students, through the lectures, their reading of theoretical and critical essays, and their participation in class discussions, will have perfected their skills in critical analysis of these genres.

Il seminario sarà svolto in lingua inglese e richiede la partecipazione attiva degli studenti con frequenti interventi personali e la redazione di una tesina su un argomento di loro scelta attinente al programma, che sarà discussa durante la valutazione finale orale. La frequenza è strettamente obbligatoria. Il seminario è compreso nel coordinamento del Corso di Laurea Magistrale in Culture Moderne Comparate.
This is a Master-level seminar given in English with an obligatory attendance policy. Students are expected to participate actively during class sessions and to write a final term paper on a relevant topic which they choose and which will be discussed at the final oral exam.
